Emmaus High School announces National Merit semifinalists

Emmaus High School recently named six student semifinalists in the 2016 National Merit Scholarship competition.

Katherine Bacher, of Macungie, is a daughter of Kenneth and Dana Bacher. Bacher is the captain of the varsity cross country team and a member of the varsity track and field team. She is a vice president of the Science Olympiad and a member of the robotics team. Her achievements also include art awards and volunteering with the Lehigh Valley Road Runners. Bacher plans to study electrical and computer engineering and attend a school where she can run competitively.

Zhuohong He, of Macungie, is a son of Canzhong He and Xiaoou Zhang. He is vice president of Pennsylvania Math League and a varsity member of the academic and tennis teams. His achievements also include membership in the Emmaus High School Chorale and French honor society and serving as secretary of the Science Olympiad. He plans to study mechanical engineering.

Xiang Luo, of Macungie, is a daughter of Yuanzhi and Xuemei Luo. Luo is vice president and treasurer of Collage magazine at Emmaus High School. She is a library volunteer and past member of the art club at Emmaus High School. Luo plans to major in business management and marketing.

Darsh Patel, of Macungie, is a son of Minesh Prabodh and Sapna Minesh Patel. Patel is convergence editor for The Stinger, the Emmaus High School newspaper and historian for the Pennsylvania Math League. Patel is a member of the varsity boys tennis team, the academic team, Science Olympiad and Spanish honor society. Patel plans to study chemical engineering.

Katie T. Xue, of Macungie, is a daughter of Dr. Tianyou Xue and Mrs. Xiaolong Song. Xue is captain of the academic team, treasurer of the Pennsylvania Math League and treasurer and president of Science Olympiad. Xue studies piano and plays tennis. She plans to major in health and human biology.

Ying Zheng, of Emmaus, is a daughter of Shi Kang Zheng and Qin Zhang. Zheng is co-president of the model congress at Emmaus High School and vice president of the Future Business Leaders of America at the school. She is a member of the debate team and Emmaus High School Ambassadors. Zheng plans to major in political science.
