Berks County biker dies following crash with car

A Berks County motorcyclist died the day after his bike hit the rear of a car around 7:35 p.m. Oct. 17 in the 7000 block of Kernsville Road, Lowhill Township.

State Police Troop M Fogelsville say Jeffrey T. Raniere, 52, of Shoemakersville, was operating his bike westbound on Kernsville Road when a 2013 Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by Brittany G. Kunkle, 25, of Northampton, stopped in front of him at 7209 Kernsville Road.

Police say Raniere took “strong evasive action at the last moment,” by steering to the left.

He then attempted to turn to the left but the bike struck the rear, left of the car.

After impact, the bike veered to the southwest and Raniere fell off, coming to rest in the eastbound lane.

The bike traveled through a field and came to rest on its left side, facing northeast.

Police allege Raniere showed signs of intoxication at the scene.

He was transported by Cetronia Ambulance to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where a blood alcohol test was drawn.

Police say Raniere died Oct. 18 in the hospital due to multiple traumatic injuries sustained in the crash.

Kunkle and her passenger, Corey D. Rehrig, 27, of Lansford, who police say were wearing seat belts, were uninjured in the crash.
