Man cited for dog attacks in Upper Macungie Twp

Two non-traffic citations have been filed against Nicolas E. Okane, 36, of Upper Macungie Township, after his two dogs allegedly attacked two other dogs, a woman and a neighbor around 10:12 a.m. Oct. 12 in the 200 block of Sage Drive, Upper Macungie Township.

According to Upper Macungie Township police, officers were dispatched to the area for a report of two dogs attacking another dog.

Upon arrival, police saw two dogs, later identified as pit bull-boxer mix, attacking a smaller dog.

Police learned just prior to their arrival and interaction, the attacking dogs killed a larger dog.

Police say the woman associated with the attacking dogs, along with a neighbor and owner of the deceased dog and the smaller dog being attacked, were on the ground attempting to protect the smaller dog.

In an attempt to protect the smaller dog and the two adults attempting to remove the attacking dogs, an officer deployed a Taser on one of the attacking dogs, which successfully dispersed both of the dogs.

EMS were called to the scene and the woman was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of dog bites to her hands, police say.

According to police, the neighbor immediately took the two dogs that were attacked to a veterinary center, however, the smaller dog ultimately died of injuries sustained in the attack.

The neighbor/owner of both deceased dogs sustained a dog bite as well, police say.

Police say it was later determined both attacking dogs were initially within their fenced yard, when they forced themselves through the vertical fence posts after they saw the other dogs.

As a result of this incident, the Pennsylvania Dog Wardens office in Harrisburg was contacted and ordered the dog owner to specific actions as well as follow-up by law regarding this incident.

The two non-traffic citations against Okane were filed with District Judge Michael Faulkner for violations of Title 3, the Pennsylvania Dog Law, police say.
