A 44-year-old Union City, N.J., man has been charged in the death of a 69-year-old Upper Macungie man in regard to a crash at 12:41 p.m. on May 15 at the intersection of Schantz Road and Industrial Boulevard, Upper Macungie.
According to Upper Macungie Township police, Juan B. Rodriguez, who was driving a 2015 Freightliner pulling a 2001 Great Dane trailer at the time of the crash, was charged Oct. 16 with filing false reports, careless driving resulting in a death, and turning movements, required signal, stop sign and yield sign violations.
Police say Ned Moyer of 30 Charles Drive was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Impala when it went underneath the tractor-trailer combo.
Moyer was extricated from his car by firefighters and transported by Cetronia Ambulance Corps to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, where he died.
According to police, both men were wearing seat belts.
Rodriguez was uninjured in the crash, police say.
The car sustained severe damage to the hood and roof.
There was moderate damage to the underside of the trailer, police say.
Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim said, on May 16, Moyer was pronounced dead at 3:58 p.m. the same day as the crash at the hospital.
Moyer’s cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma due to the motor vehicle and tractor trailer accident, Grim said.
He ruled Moyer’s death an accident.
Police say Upper Macungie, Good Will, Trexlertown and Alburtis fire departments, along with Fogelsville fire police, assisted at the scene.
This is an open and ongoing investigation, police say.
