Halloween activities planned
October brings Halloween and the usual list of spooky and fun activities for the young and young at heart.
A group of local churches is again holding a Light in the Night Safe Zones party 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 25 to provide a safe and fun Halloween event for local children.
The event will be held in the Upper Milford Township building. There was an excellent turnout for this event last year and organizers are expecting between 70 and 100 grown-ups and children.
Don’t forget the Vera Cruz Halloween Parade which will be held 7 p.m. Oct. 14. Sponsored by The Vera Cruz Community Association, the parade will follow Main Road East, Main Road West and Vera Cruz roads.
The parade stages at Mystic Chain Park 6 p.m. The Vera Cruz Community Association will sell hot dogs, baked goods and drinks at the intersection of Main and Vera Cruz roads. Cash prizes are awarded for individual marchers, groups and floats. No pre-registration is needed. For information, call Chris Barebo at 610-967-1666. Trick or treat night in Lower Milford Township is 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 20.
The Haunted Woods, 7125 Carols Hill Road, Zionsville, is open 6:30 to 10 p.m. every Saturday now until and including Halloween night. Follow signs from Route 29/100, or go to the website www.hauntedwoodszionsville.com for directions. There is a cost and 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit Bethlehem Special Olympics. Salem United Methodist Church, 6440 Powder Valley Road, Zionsville, will hold its harvest fest rain or shine, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 10. Lunch will be available, featuring homemade soups, as well as baked goods, painted pumpkins and flea market items. There will be a free prize drawing. For more information, call 610-965-6796.
Citizens Fire Company in Vera Cruz will hold its fourth annual fire prevention open house and craft show 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 10. You are invited to join the fire company at its station for a day of fun. Enjoy the refreshment stand and bake sale and browse the gifts available from over 30 crafters and vendors. St. Peter’s Union Church will hold its seventh annual basket social Oct. 25 at the church. Doors open 11:30 a.m. for lunch and the games begin 1 p.m. There will be 20 games of bingo featuring items from Longaberger, Pampered Chef and more. St. Peter’s will benefit from a family fun night 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 20 at Friendly’s Restaurant. Trexlertown. St. Peter’s will receive 10 percent of all sales during that time.

The Ladies Auxiliary meets 7 p.m. Nov. 3 at the firehouse.
Vera Cruz senior citizens meet 1 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Vera Cruz Fire Company. All are welcome.
Upper Milford supervisors will meet Oct. 15, with a workshop 7 p.m. and the regular meeting 7:30 p.m.
The Upper Milford Recreation Commission meets Oct. 19. The Emmaus-Upper Milford Joint Environmental Advisory Council meets 7 p.m. Oct. 26 in Emmaus.
There will be no monthly pork and sauerkraut dinners at the Lower Milford Fire Company until further notice.
