LCCC

Lehigh Carbon Community College will host a fall job fair 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 29 in The Lisa Scheller and Wayne Woodman Community Services Center at the college’s main campus in Schnecksville.

LCCC students and alumni are encouraged to attend. The public is also invited. Bring resumes and wear professional attire as local and regional employers will be available to discuss full-time, part-time, seasonal and internship opportunities.

HILLSIDE SCHOOL

Dr. Brook Sawyer and Dr. Julie Santoro will share their research in the areas of developing language and early literacy in a presentation 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 7 at The Hillside School, 2697 Brookside Road, Macungie.

The program will feature strategies for promoting early reading development.

Sawyer holds a doctorate in educational psychology. Her primary research focuses on supporting and enhancing the practices of teachers and parents to promote the language and literacy development of young children, including children who are typically developing, children with disabilities and dual language learners.

Santoro holds a doctorate in special education and is currently a research scientist at Lehigh University. Santoro is a former speech language pathologist who worked in clinical and special education settings servicing children in preschool through high school.

Sawyer and Santoro, with colleagues at The Ohio State University, are currently engaged in a $3.5 million federal grant to determine the effectiveness of supplemental language and literacy curriculum for young children with disabilities.
