Lester F. “Les” Baer, 84, formerly of (Minesite) Allentown, died peacefully Sept. 21, 2015, at Fellowship Manor, Whitehall, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late B. Betty (Klotz) Baer. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Franklin and Katherine M. (Wright) Baer.
A well-known radio personality and orchestra leader, he was employed at WKAP in Allentown where he hosted numerous radio shows and commercials for over 50 years, retiring in 2005.
He owned and operated the former BBB Productions in Allentown and also founded the former Les Baer Jazz Quintet.
He was a member of Morgenland Union Church, Orefield.
A 32nd Degree Mason, he was a member of Greenleaf Lodge #561, F. & A.M. and Lehigh Consistory, Valley of Allentown.
He is survived by children, Kathy M. and her husband Alfred A. Picca, Jr., of Allentown, Sheila D. and her husband James D. Owens, of Morristown, Tenn., Les C. and his companion, Karen Foutz, of Hillsdale, Ill.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Franklin “Skip;” and half-siblings, Dennis Baer and Lois Frantz.
