Golfers compete in league tourney

The Colonial League golf season came to a close Monday with the league championship tournament at Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course.

Two Salisbury players competed in the tournament. Junior Ryan Slutsky shot 94 to tie for 29th place while junior Eric Pennella carded a 106.

Slutsky came into the tournament with a scoring average of 81.5 for the season and was hoping to shoot a mid-80s round.

“I didn’t play that well,” said Slutsky. “On the front my putting wasn’t very good and I didn’t hit that many fairways with the driver but on the back I started to pull it together more.”

Pennella came into the tournament with a scoring average of 94.1 and was hoping to shoot in the 80s or 90s at the league tournament.

“I’m not really pleased about it but what are you going to do about it,” he said. “You just go out there and try your best.”

Both Falcon golfers will move on to next week’s District 11 qualifying tournament, which is scheduled for Monday at Locust Valley Golf Course.

Moravian’s Colin McQueen won Monday’s league championship tournament with a 79. Moravian’s Cory Haldeman shot 77 and edged Southern Lehigh’s Jimmy Gold in a playoff for second place.

Moravian also captured the team title with a score of 392. Southern Lehigh was second at 408, followed by Bangor (448) and Saucon Valley (453).

Saucon Valley’s Sophia Isreal won the Colonial League girls title with a 95.
