PPL Foundation to aid communities

PPL Corporation has announced the formation of the PPL Foundation, which will partner with community organizations to improve the lives of people in the communities served by the company.

The PPL Foundation will support a variety of nonprofit organizations, with a special focus on those supporting early education, community revitalization and workforce development.

In making major grants, the PPL Foundation will focus on three areas:

•Education: Contributions in this area will focus on early childhood education, as well as science, technology, engineering and math programs in distressed areas to ensure as many children as possible have access to high-quality education.

•Community revitalization: Efforts in this area will include safe housing, prepared emergency response teams, accessible hospitals and arts and cultural opportunities.

•Workforce development: Work in this area will include updating infrastructure, building new power lines, installing smart grid systems, improving reliability and exploring new opportunities to help customers use energy wisely. A diverse, highly-trained workforce will be critical.

With two application cycles each year, the PPL Foundation will offer sustaining grants between $1,000 and $25,000 to nonprofit organizations working in the areas of education, community and economic development and environmental stewardship.

The foundation will offer grants between $25,000 and $100,000 to nonprofit organizations with a particular focus on education, community revitalization and workforce development.
