New roof going on building

Weisenberg Township municipal building is getting a new roof.

The township crew, led by Roadmaster Tony Werley and Township Administrator Brian Carl are currently at work replacing the old slate with a metal roof. Carl estimated some of the slate are original, placed on the building when it was constructed more than 100 years ago.

The board of supervisors meeting on Sept. 14 had a few items on the agenda.

The Blaisdell/Bowman lot line adjustment plan on Carpet Road was approved by the board.

Supervisors also adopted an ordinance regarding the speed zone on Silver Creek and Bachelor roads.

The speed will now be limited to 30 mph on Bachelor Road from Militia Road to New Smithville Road and on Silver Creek Road from the beginning to Route 863.

Other traffic concerns were voiced, including one about Bleiler Hill Road. The board was asked to place “No Trucks” signs at either end.

Harry Haas, 3314 Willow Run Road, requested a “Curve Ahead” sign be placed on the road at his property.

There is a dangerous curve on Willow Run Road and Haas thought it would be good if a sign was erected directing the attention of motorists of this situation.

Fire Chief Brian Carl reported the Weisenberg Township Volunteer Fire Company had 135 calls so far this year.

Funds were appropriated to install a new heating system at the maintenance building. The old system is no longer operable.

The board also allotted its usual donations to the local service organizations.

Cetronia Ambulance Corps was given $5,000.

New Tripoli Fire Company received $5,000 toward the rescue truck and the Northwestern Recreation Commission also received $5,000.

The Weisenberg Lowhill Historical Society was given $5,000 and Christ’s Church at Lowhill Food Pantry will receive $2,000.

The township received a letter from Lehigh County saying 36.23 acres of land, owned by Benson and Mary Ann Stettler, was accepted into agricultural preservation.

This brings the total acreage of preserved land to 4134.69 acres.
