It’s that time again for one of the most eagerly awaited events in Emmaus. The Emmaus Halloween Parade will make its way through Emmaus beginning 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17. A rain date is set for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18.
If you enjoy this time-honored event, consider volunteering to help with the parade organization. Parade planning meetings are held 7 p.m. every Thursday in the second floor community room of borough hall. For information, email EmmausParade@aol.com or call 610-965-6250.
The National Penn Bank Halloween in Emmaus 5K race will run the same route as the parade 7 p.m. Proceeds from the race benefit the Halloween parade, Emmaus Special Entertainment Commission’s projects and Emmaus parks. For information, visit www.emmaus5k.com/info.html.
The Emmaus Historical Society’s new museum, 218 Main St., will be open noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays. In addition to on-street parking, there is a parking lot to the immediate rear of the building.
The Emmaus Historical Society will hold a fried chicken dinner 5 to 6 p.m. Oct. 21 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. The deadline to purchase tickets is Oct. 7. Call 610-966-6591 for information and to order tickets.
Everyone is welcome to stay after the dinner to attend the Society’s monthly meeting which begins 7 p.m. Gayle Getz and other society members will share personal memories of one- or two-room school houses during the program, “School Days of Years Ago.” For information, visit www.emmaushistoric-pa.org.

All senior citizens over the age of 55 are invited to the Emmaus Senior Citizens meetings at St. Matthew’s E.C. Church, Ridge and Fifth streets. The group meets 1 p.m. Fridays. The October programs are Oct. 2: musician Dick Roberts; Oct. 9: musician Betty Naftzinger; Oct. 16: musician David Matchetti; Oct. 23: Roger Trice on the banjo and Oct. 30 is game day. The Friends of the 1803 House will host “A Very Merrie Halloween,” 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 3. This family-oriented fall and Halloween festival and juried craft show will be held on the grounds of the historic 1803 House, 55 S. Keystone Ave. The event features tours of the house, children’s activities and a costumed Halloween parade as well as many booths filled with delightful wares. The Wildlands Conservancy will demonstrate “not so scary” wild creatures. Pulled pork sandwiches and other baked goods will be available for purchase. For information, visit www.1803house.org.

The program for the Emmaus Garden Club’s Oct. 6 meeting is “Dealing with Deer in Your Landscape.” John Drabic will present simple to sophisticated tactics for deterring deer damage in gardens. The club meets noon for social time with the program beginning 12:30 p.m., followed by a business meeting 1:30 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St.

The Emmaus Arts Commission’s Student Film Festival begins 6 p.m. Oct. 8 with a kick- off session at Emmaus High School. During the kick-off event, participants are provided filmmaking tips and techniques and given the theme and genre for the festival. A ceremony to install bricks honoring seven community heroes is rescheduled 5 p.m. Oct. 14 at The Emmaus Remembrance Garden at the Knauss Homestead, 164 E. Main Street (rear), Emmaus. The rain date will be 6 p.m. Oct. 16.
