Student named to
York college
of Pennsylvania
Patrick Burker, of Catasauqua, a senior criminal justice major at York College of Pennsylvania, has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2015 semester. To be eligible for this honor, a student must be registered for at least 12 academic credit hours and earn a semester GPA of 3.50 or higher. Burker has also been inducted into Alpha Phi Sigma, the national criminal justice honor society and has been appointed as treasurer of York College’s chapter.
A private college located in southcentral Pennsylvania, York College of Pennsylvania offers more than 50 baccalaureate majors in professional programs, the sciences and humanities to its 4,600 undergraduate students. The college also offers master’s programs in business, education and nursing and a doctorate in nursing practice.
Rensselaer
Polytechnic
Institute
Joseph Wetzel of Bath and Dakota Schiffer of Catasauqua have joined Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s Class of 2019. More than 1,400 freshmen joined the Rensselaer community on Aug. 31 with the first day of classes. They hail from 46 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and countries all over the world.
Founded in 1824, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is America’s oldest technological research university. For nearly two centuries, the institute has been a driving force behind breakthroughs in engineering and science in virtually every arena - from transportation and infrastructure to business, medicine, outer space and cyberspace.
LEBANON VALLEY COLLEGE
Lebanon Valley College welcomed 22 Legacy enrollees as part of its Class of 2019, including Adam Schisler of Northampton.
Schisler, a graduate of Northampton Area High School, intends to pursue a bachelor of science in business administration at Lebanon Valley, where students are challenged by a sophisticated, hands-on curriculum. His father, Aaron Schisler, received a bachelor of science degree in management.
Legacy students benefit from the Children of Alumni Award, a scholarship program that grants $2,500 per year, for a total benefit of $10,000 over the course of four years.
Lebanon Valley College, in Annville, welcomed 1,573 full-time undergraduates studying more than 30 challenging and sophisticated majors, as well as customized self-designed majors.
WILKES UNIVERSITY
Michaela Chidiac of Coplay is one of more than 45 students at Wilkes University who have accepted on-campus leadership roles as resident assistants. Resident assistants are responsible for crisis management, documenting policy violations, reporting maintenance requests and various other administrative tasks in campus residence halls where undergraduate students live.
They are also responsible for fostering a residential environment supportive of individual student growth and development and encouraging on-campus community participation.
Chidiac is a junior nursing student.
Resident assistants are appointed for an academic year and have the primary responsibility for a floor, wing or house. The student leaders agree to abide by a code of ethics and must maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.25 or higher while carrying a full course load of at least 12 credits.
Wilkes University
Wilkes University welcomed more than 600 students into the class of 2019. Area students include the following:
Bath: James Benes, who is studying pre-pharmacy, and Noah Durnin, who is studying finance
Catasauqua: Alexis Ayache, who is studying elementary and early childhood education
Coplay: Jacob Houser, who is studying pre-pharmacy and plays tuba in the Wilkes University Marching Band
Northampton: Summer Rivera
Whitehall: Anthony Dex, who is studying mechanical engineering, and Dewitt Haskins, who is studying science
