Joseph L. Mallon, Jr., M.D., 58, of Macungie, died of multiple myeloma Sept. 9, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Pinto) Mallon. He was the devoted father of Mary Kathleen, Joseph Stephen and John Charles. Born and raised in Philadelphia, he was the son of Joseph and Kathleen (Perkinson) Mallon, of Philadelphia.
He graduated from Our Lady of Calvary School, Holy Ghost Preparatory School, St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. After completing a residency in internal medicine at Temple University Hospital, he worked for 12 years as a general internist at Abington Memorial Hospital. He then worked for two years as a hospitalist physician at McLeod Hospital in Florence, S.C. He moved to the Lehigh Valley in 2007, working as a hospitalist physician at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, where he was widely respected and loved.
He is survived by his wife; children; parents; sister, Mary and her husband Tim Brown; brothers, Michael, Thomas and his wife Kelly, Daniel and his wife Colleen; nephew, Thomas; nieces Alexandra, Meghan and her husband Jim Brown, Alison Brown, Emily Brown, Elizabeth Brown, Katie, Kara, and Grace; great-niece Helen Guerriero; godfather and uncle Thomas Perkinson and his wife Antoinette; aunts, Mary Anne and her husband Joe Schaffner, Helen and her husband Parviz Kambin and Joanna Perkinson; mother-in-law Constance Pinto; brothers-in-law, Charles and his wife Kathi Pinto, Eugene Pinto and his wife Maria; sister-in-law, Margaret and her husband Brian McGann; many cousins, friends, and co-workers.
