Businesses coming to Emmaus
An owner of a craft beverage production facility is requesting to operate its business in Emmaus by Bank and Fifth streets.
Kristofer Kwant, owner of Triple Sun Spirits, is prepared to begin operation in November. Rum, whiskey, gin and bourbon will be among items produced. Tastings will be available Thursday through Saturday or possibly Sunday.
James Yergey will begin production in 2016.
Both businesses will operate at the same site. Details about entrance, traffic concerns and other issues will be considered.
There will only be snacks served at the facility.
A public hearing was held for the conditional use request at the Emmaus Borough Council meeting Sept. 8.
Council approved the conditional use. The businesses will be housed in the old Commercial Color building. Commercial Color has been out of business for 10 years.
In other meeting news, it was proposed to have an Alex’s Lemonade Stand fundraiser and awareness event in Emmaus Community Park.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand raises money to fight childhood cancers. Council suggested the stand be placed in the Triangle during the Farewell to Summer event scheduled Sept. 19.
Two handicapped parking spots will be added to the area of 20-22 N. 5th St. The spaces will be available 7 a.m. to noon Sundays.
The Emmaus Community Park pool had high attendance partially due to Cedar Beach pool in Allentown being closed.
Sally Nicholas was hired as the pool manager for the 2016 summer season.
Pedestrian crossing signs are to be requested from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to improve safety along Main Street.
PennDOT is also seeking a commitment letter from the borough to pay for signs if the borough decides to post a 25 mph speed limit along Main Street.
Two vehicles are to be purchased for the borough. The vehicles are both 2016 models but are being purchased at 2015 prices.
Council member Brent Labenberg expressed concern about a statue placed at the Emmaus Public Library.
“It showed up without notice,” Labenberg said.
It took six months for a mosaic wall to be created and approved.
Emmaus Borough Manager Shane Pepe also was quite upset about the statue.
