Emmaus fixture closes its doors Sept. 26
After 40 years of being the “go to” place for women’s fashions, Once is Not Enuff, in Emmaus, will officially close its doors Sept. 26.
Nancy Owen, owner of the boutique for 35 years, retired in 2014 to spend more time with her husband and grandchildren.
Owen’s daughter, Heather Browne, then took the reins and has continued to provide quality resale fashions at affordable prices.
The consignment store has been a win-win for both shoppers and consigners.
Shopper Maryanne Steinert, of Northampton, said she fell in love with the store three or four years ago.
“The buys are phenomenal,” Steinert said. “The first time I came into the store, there was a woman shopping for an outfit for a wedding. She got an entire outfit, including shoes, for $75.”
Steinert said for people on a budget, this is where you needed to shop.
“It’s very sad the shop is closing. This is a loss for the community.”
The underlying theme at the store Sept. 5 was that everyone who walked in the door was made to feel comfortable– like a friend.
“Having the store close is like losing a friend,” consignor and shopper Barbara Minter, of Telford, said.
“I’ve been coming to the store for 25 years. I come all the way here from Telford because it is a wonderful place. You can’t walk in without finding something you ‘need.’”
“I’m sick about it,” consignor and shopper Judy Naughton, of Allentown, said about the store closing.
“I was so impressed with the store. The people here care, they don’t just sell to sell,” Naughton said.
Naughton said the displays are wonderful and said she has been going to the store for the last 20 years.
“I’ve consigned other places but this is the best.” She said she has not been happy with any other consignment store.
“I don’t have any idea where I’ll go. Everyone is a friend that walks in the door.”
Browne said over the past 40 years, there have been an estimated 8,000 consignors.
Browne has been overwhelmed by the support and kind words since the announcement made recently about the store closure.
“I personally have been a shopper at Once is Not Enuff for the last 35 years and have built many friendships here. Though the store is closing, those memories will last forever and countless friendships will continue on.”
The store will be open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays through Sept. 26.
