Schools will be closed Friday, Sept. 4 and Monday, Sept. 7 for the Labor Day holiday. Classes will be back in session Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Gockley Elementary School’s Meet Your Teacher Night is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 10. Parents are encouraged to attend this informative evening event. Children should not accompany their parents. This evening’s presentation is solely for the parents. The school will be open at 6:30 pm. Each classroom teacher will begin promptly at 6:40 pm. with a 20-minute presentation about the curriculum and classroom. Parents will also be able to tour the building and visit displays set up in the cafeteria.

An optional breakfast program is being offered this year. Beginning Monday, Oct. 5, students will have the opportunity to purchase a cold breakfast before the school day begins. Students arriving after 8:45 a.m. will not be able to purchase a breakfast due to the limited time. Watch for more details to be sent home with your child. More information will also be available on the district’s website, whitehallcoplay.org.

Gockley students will have Red, White and Blue Day on Friday, Sept. 11 to show their patriotic pride. Everyone is encouraged to wear an item of clothing in those colors.

Elementary and middle school students are reminded to be wearing socks and sneakers on the day of gym class. Wearing proper footwear will allow the students to participate safely in gym class. It is also important for outside recess.

The Whitehall-Coplay Parent Teacher Organization is newly reorganized this year. It will continue to provide numerous educational and cultural programs for the students. Many of the special events could not occur without the assistance and financial support of this organization. The PTO covers students in grades K through 12. During the upcoming weeks, parents will receive information about becoming a member. There are no commitments when you enroll, but volunteer opportunities are available.

The PTO’s volunteer orientation session will be Tuesday, Sept. 8 at the Zephyr Elementary School. Volunteers may choose to attend either the 9:15 a.m. or 6 :30 p.m. session.
