NOVA, Cetronia ambulance corps to share school district facilities

In the absence of Steve Bachman, Supervisor Rodney Schlauch Jr. served as chairperson for the Aug. 20 Heidelberg Township supervisors’ meeting.

According to Schlauch, the quandary as to which ambulance service responds to Northwestern Lehigh School District has been resolved.

“As far as we are concerned, Cetronia will service the elementary school and NOVA will cover all other areas, including the recreation fields,” Schlauch said.

“Where we get a call, we’ll go,” NOVA board member Jason Breidinger said.

Breidinger said he attended the meeting to say “hello” and to see if there were any questions for NOVA by residents or supervisors.

He agreed confusion over coverage has been cleared and staff at Lehigh County’s 911 Communications Center will dispatch accordingly.

In other matters, Zoning Officer Chris Noll reported there are properties along Hickory Drive, and Memorial and Hillside roads overgrown by weeds and needing attention.

He said two of the property owners have been contacted, with no response.

Noll recommended the next step be township crews cut the overgrown grass and weeds and forward the bill to the property owners.

In other matters, due to tightening conservation laws in Pennsylvania, Noll suggested supervisors think about a more detailed plot plan to predict permit requisites in accordance with the state’s Clean Streams Act and Chapter 102 of Title 25 which enforces erosion and sediment control and post construction stormwater management.

According to Pennsylvania Code, other than agricultural plowing or tilling activities, animal heavy use areas, timber harvesting activities or road maintenance activities, a person proposing an earth disturbance activity involving equal to or greater than 1 acre of earth disturbance is required to obtain a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit.

Roadmaster Kevin Huber reported crews have been working on stormwater catch boxes in Heidelberg Heights.

Once oil and chipping is completed, Huber plans to team up with Lowhill Township for line painting to reduce cost.

Huber told supervisors the township needs to look into adding a shadow vehicle to the road crew.

He said the township has been trying to get around inconveniencing residents with road closures, but just putting a “road closed” sign at the shoulder of the road is not compliant with Penn DOT.

Township Administrator Janice Meyers requested the zoning office be open another day so the new office assistant, Dawn Didra, can get caught up.

Meyers also reported calls are already coming in asking about Trick-or-Treat Night.

Although the date usually isn’t set this early, neighboring townships and Heidelberg have set the official date for 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31, with no rain date.

Budget workshops were scheduled for 6:30 p.m., Sept. 17, Oct. 15 and Nov. 19.

Township Tax Collector Phyllis Breininger requested $80 to obtain tax collector certification credits. Permission was granted.
