Lower Milford plans festival
Lower Milford Township’s annual Fall Festival will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 26, rain or shine on the township building grounds, 7607 Chestnut Hill Church Road, Coopersburg. Call 610-967-4949, extension 0 or 215-679-5615 for more information. Vendors and crafters are wanted.
The festival will feature music, crafts, food from Pappy’s Orchard and Smokin’ Smitty’s, a photo contest, kids’ games, a Southern Lehigh Library book sale and much more. Go to the township website and click on the festival link for more details.
St. Peter’s Union Church, 7863 St. Peter’s Road, Macungie, is holding a car show and community yard sale Sept. 12, on the church grounds. The car show takes place noon to 4 p.m. Contact Pat at 610-682-7377 to register or for more information.
The yard sale begins 9 a.m. and features food, a light lunch and baked goods for sale. Contact Ron at 610-845-2525 to rent a table or space. The fee for parking for the car show is a donation of cash or a non-perishable food item for a local food pantry.
On Sept. 19, there will be an antique tractor and implement collectors’ show in St. Peter’s Grove beginning 10 a.m.
Old Zionsville United Church of Christ’s All You Can Eat breakfast returns 7 to 11 a.m. Sept.19.
Upper Milford Youth Association’s fall lacrosse clinic will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday afternoons at Jasper Park.
UMYA Lacrosse was founded three years ago and members of the Fisher family have volunteered every fall to coach the sport. UMYA will be contributing a portion of the registration proceeds to the Michael “Whitey” Fisher lacrosse scholarship fund in memory of Michael Fisher, who passed away this past spring.

The Ladies Auxiliary meets 7 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month at the firehouse. New members are always welcome.
Vera Cruz senior citizens meet 1 p.m. Sept. 3 and 17 at the Vera Cruz Fire Company. All are welcome.
The Upper Milford Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. Sept. 24, in the Upper Milford Township building. Shirley Roth Hader will reminisce about her experiences teaching in East Penn. Upper Milford supervisors will meet Sept. 3 and 17, with a 7 p.m. workshop and the regular meeting 7:30 p.m.
The Upper Milford Recreation Commission meets Sept. 21.
The Emmaus-Upper Milford Joint Environmental Advisory Council meets 7 p.m., Sept. 28 in Upper Milford.
Looking ahead: A group of local churches is again holding a Light in the Night Safe Zones party 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 25, to provide a safe and fun Halloween event for local children. The event will be held in the Upper Milford Township building. There was an excellent turnout for this event last year and organizers are expecting between 70 and 100 adults and children.
There will be no monthly pork and sauerkraut dinners at the Lower Milford Fire Company until further notice.
Following is the schedule of Lower Milford September meetings. All meetings are 7:30 p.m. in the township building unless otherwise noted: planning commission, Sept. 14; recreation and open space, Sept. 9; supervisors regular meeting, Sept. 17; historical commission, Sept. 8.
Representatives from the Pennsylvania Department of Transporation will hold a meeting at the township building 6:30 p.m. Sept. 17 to present plans to the public for the replacement of the Limeport Pike bridge, located in Limeport.
Chestnut Hill Church, Coopersburg, will hold its annual yard/bake sale and recycling event 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 3. Go to the church’s website, chestnuthillchurch.org, for a list of items accepted for the recycling event. The yard sale will feature clothing, household items, knick knacks, furniture, books, toys, baby items, pictures, kitchen items and more. New and slightly used items will be accepted. If you would like to donate items, call Debbie at 610-967-1975. All items not sold are donated to a local shelter and the Salvation Army.
The quarterly meeting of the Hivel Und Dahl Preservation Society will be held 7 p.m. Sept. 29 in the Upper Milford Township building, 5671 Chestnut St. in Zionsville. After a short business meeting, Candace K. Perry, curator at the Schwenkfelder Library and Heritage Center, will speak on the lore of Pennsylvania German folk healing, commonly known as powwow in English or Braucherei in the Pennsylvania German dialect.
