Fire crews from Salisbury, Emmaus, Lower Macungie and South Whitehall township fire departments respond to a reported structure fire Aug. 11 at 1243 S. Cedar Crest Blvd. for reports of smoke in the building. The fire was reported around 10:30 a.m. and first arriving units from Western Salisbury Fire Department confirmed smoke in the building and the building was evacuated. Firefighters found the smoke was coming from an equipment malfunction in the elevator machinery room. A problem with one of the elevator motors caused oil to overheat and smoke. Crews were able to shut off power to the motor and remained on the scene for over an hour working to clear smoke from the building. No injuries were reported and the staff and visitors were allowed to re-enter the building after the smoke was cleared.

First arriving crews from Western Salisbury Fire Department position an aerial ladder in front of the 1243 building and send personnel in to investigate the cause of the smoke.
