Our daughter Caroline has her learner's permit and has been logging in her driving hours. One evening she was driving home on Interstate 78 from the The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley with her dad when Matt said to her, "Watch out for the boat in the road." The boat had fallen off the top of a car and was lying sideways in the left lane of I-78. Caroline calmly navigated around it and kept going. Matt told me later she was so calm he didn't think she had even seen it in the road. I guess if you can navigate that obstacle, you're ready for your driving test.

The next township column will be published Sept. 16; copy deadline is Sept. 10.
