ALBURTIS BOROUGH COUNCIL

The Alburtis Borough Council discussed a property in severe disrepair at its regular meeting Aug. 12.

The property has currently been tagged as uninhabitable. It was reported there is a hole in the roof which has been ineffectually patched with plywood from inside the residence. Trespassers have entered the property for the express purpose of stealing copper and there is animal feces strewn throughout the building. The borough is seeking a warrant to further inspect the property.

The Borough of Alburtis paid an amount on the estimated sewer billings during 2012 that exceeded the final charges for the year. As a result, the borough received accreditation for the estimated sewer billing for the second quarter of this year. Due to the surplus credit balance, there is no amount due for this quarter.

Borough council also received correspondence from Lower Macungie Township regarding the rezoning amendment proposed by Double D Lehigh, LP for the property at 7785 Spring Creek.

See the Lower Macungie Township Planning Commission story for more information (Page A1).

The company is seeking to change the designation of the property from a semi-rural district to a commercial district.

Alburtis Borough Council strongly opposed the proposed rezoning amendment, which is scheduled to be reviewed by the Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners Sept. 3.

The Lockridge Memorial Presbyterian Church has been deferred historical status by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Bureau for Historical Preservation. The bureau has cited "insufficient information" to fully assess whether the church would meet National Register's standards for significance and integrity.
