Rev those engines...

Sue Giralico from the Lynn Township Recreation Committee said there were at least 16 more cars, trucks and motorcycles than there were in the past year entered in the car show at Ontelaunee Park July 12.

This was the seventh year for the event.

"It is exceeding our expectations," Giralico said.

Braydon Heller and Emma Conrey were showing Heller's grandmother's 1963 Studebaker Hawk with a 4.7-meter, V-8 engine and four-speed automatic transmission. His grandmother is Geraldine Wentz.

Heller said he drove the car to the show and takes it to Night in the Country.

"I wash, clean and wax it," he said.

A 1958 International truck was a 1-1/2 ton truck but now has a shortened body. The truck, which came from Kansas, is called a rat rod and will not be restored.

"It is the poor man's street rod, and is just as much fun," said Perry who owns the truck with wife Kim Bastian. The couple is from New Tripoli.

It has a trunk in the back with the bottom cut out to use as a cover for the gas tank.

Marilyn Schellhamer of New Tripoli, aunt to Julie Lubinsky, said she would not sell her 1967 Pontiac Firebird to anybody but family. Ed Lubinsky said he was going to marry Julie and that would make him family.

The car was bought new in 1967 but has been sitting in a garage for many years.

"He put it back together like new and my aunt was in tears," Julie said.

Schellhamer hadn't known they planned to restore it to a like-new appearance including the dark green color.

Presently, they are working on a 1959 Firebird convertible.

"We put a lot into it," Julie said.

Ron and Sandy Wentz have owned a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass since 1975.

"We were the second owners," Ron said.

He did muchof the restoration himself and put a new top on it.

The Cutlass, which has been returned to its original color and it is taken to a lot of parades.

"We kept it as original as possible," Ron said.

Barry and Kelly Heckman have a doll that keeps watch on their 1968 Chevy Model SS.

The back of the doll's hat says, "I want to be No. 24 when I grow up."

Barry Heckman just brought the car in Chicago two months ago.

It has 375 horsepower with a posi rear end. He found it on the Gateway Classic Cars page on the Internet and fell in love with the color.

Kermit DeLong says his son, Derek, enjoys riding in his 1991 Chevy. Previously, DeLong had a 1924 Dodge and Derek liked that one, also.

The Chevy was bought in the condition he showed it.
