The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners discussed the truck traffic issue at Schoeneck Road Aug. 6.

Truck traffic has become a major topic as there was yet another accident at this location last week. The commissioners said this is a complex issue due to the fact it involves the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the township.

The commissioners want to restrict truck traffic at Schoeneck and Quarry roads. It was also suggested to consider truck traffic restrictions on Creamery Road.

There will be a meeting with Keystone Engineering and PennDOT to determine the need to make restrictions. An ordinance will be written to restrict the truck traffic.

It was discussed the construction site at Buckeye and Brookside roads is for a PPL substation.

Park Side Crossings (formerly Jarrett Farm) is requesting removal of ownership of stormwater lines. The reason for the change is new Department of Environmental Protection requirements for water quality.

Commissioner James Lancsek suggested Lower Macungie Township accept the piping, not the basin. Commissioner Ron Beitler said long-term maintenance with no costs to maintain is a liability to the township.

Lancsek made the motion to approve the subdivision with public piping. The vote was 3-2 with commissioners Beitler and Douglas Brown voting against.

Stone Hill Meadows was approved with private roads built in accordance with public roads to allow for emergency vehicles.

Resident Dennis Seman expressed an ongoing desire to ban open fires in the township. The commissioners assured Seman there is an ordinance about outdoor burning.

An issue about basketball nets, hockey nets and skate ramps on roadways was also discussed at the meeting.

Commissioners said the Hamilton Crossings project is progressing well. The clay, silted sediment has been eliminated and the replacement fill is almost completed.

The first draft of the 2016 budget will be available Sept. 17. There will be three public meetings.

There were three bids for the Church Street Bridge. The bid was awarded to Professional Construction Contractors in the amount of $67,000.

The Double D property at the intersection of Spring Creek, Trexlertown Road and Route 100 has been approved for re-zoning.
