National Merit Scholarship Winners
An Emmaus High School student is among this year's National Merit Scholarship winners.
Lucy Q. Lin, of Macungie, will receive the National Merit Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Scholarship.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is a coeducational technological university in New York.
Lin lists her probable career field as chemical engineering.

Scholarships announced
The Kiwanis Club of Emmaus recently announced the winners of five scholarships awarded to graduating Emmaus High School seniors by the club.
The Walter Stoudt Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Barry Seng, of Macungie. Seng will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and major in economics. This award is based on academics and leadership in school and civic activities, including active membership in the Emmaus High School Key Club. The award honors the first president and co-founder of the Emmaus Kiwanis Club which was chartered in 1951.
The Warren Hamscher Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Jaclyn Reinbold, of Macungie. Reinbold will attend Kutztown University to study communication design. This award is based on academics, leadership in sports and other criteria. The award honors the other co-founder of the Emmaus Kiwanis Club.
The Kiwanis Service Award was awarded to Robert Haag, of Macungie. Haag will attend Stanford University and major in engineering. This award recognizes Haag's wide range of service activities to his school and community.
The Larry Carraher Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Thomas Wagner, of Allentown. Wagner will attend the University of Delaware and major in chemical engineering. This award, chosen by the family of Larry Carraher, a past president and active Emmaus High School supporter, recognizes academics and excellence in athletics.
The Donald Trump Memorial Scholarship honors the legacy of former Shoemaker Elementary School teacher Donald Trump. The scholar- ship is awarded based on academics and to a student who will attend a Pennsylvania public university, majoring in education, which reflects Trump's values. This award was presented to Brianna McGinley, of Macungie, who will attend Bloomsburg University and major in special education.
The Emmaus Kiwanis Club awards about $6,000 annually in scholarship and other leadership grants to deserving students in the East Penn School District. Funds for these awards come, in part, from the revenues generated by the club's annual pancake breakfast in June, fruit and pie sale in the fall and other fundraising activities throughout the year.

Student receives a bronze medal
Howard Moyer, a student at Emmaus High School and Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, won a bronze medal in heavy equipment operations at the Pennsylvania SkillsUSA Championships held recently in Hershey.
Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to top finishers in the competition. Gold medal winners represented Pennsylvania at the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Ky., recently.
Contestants in the state competition included students from Bethlehem Area Vocational-Technical School, Career Institute of Technology, Lehigh Career and Technical Institute, Monroe Career and Technical Institute and Upper Bucks County Technical School.
