Vera Cruz hosts annual homecoming
The 64th annual Vera Cruz Homecoming will be held noon to about 8:30 p.m., Aug. 16 rain or shine, at Mystic Chain Park, Main Road East.
This event, sponsored by the Vera Cruz Community Association, is Vera Cruz's version of a community block party and is open to everyone (residents and non-residents). Local television personality Jeff Tapler, known as "Uncle Jeffrey", will broadcast his weekly "Health and Happiness" show live 1 to 5 p.m. from the park.
The musical entertainment will be the Rehrig Brothers, who will take the stage 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The day's events begin 9 a.m. with a community homecoming service at the Vera Cruz Evangelical Congregational Church, 5501 Vera Cruz Road.
The day will be filled with entertainment, cakewalks and a raffle drawing.
Homemade food will be provided by the Vera Cruz Community Association.
Additionally, food and entertainment will be provided by Bob-B-Q Sliders & Sides Truck and Bouncing Around. To volunteer to help at the Homecoming or for information, call Audra Berner at 610-967-5432.
Old Zionsville native Donald Heminitz will be the featured speaker at the Upper Milford Historical Society's meeting 7 p.m. Aug. 27. He will talk about his travels as a fifer and on the Mayflower II. The meeting will be held at the Upper Milford Township building. All are welcome. For information, call Neil Moser, society president, at 610-966-4376.
St. Peter's Union Church, 7863 St. Peter's Road, will hold a community yard sale 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 15.

Milford Park family camp, 10 a.m. Aug. 10 to 15, Bible study taught by Rev. Dana Weller, 7 p.m. Aug. 10 to 14, except Aug. 12; evening service in the lounge with Pastor Todd Wolfe; missionary night, 7 p.m. Aug. 12 with missionaries Jack and Audrey DeLong; 7 p.m., Aug. 15 The Harmonaires; 7 p.m., Aug. 16 the Macungie Band; 7 p.m., Aug. 22 gospel concert by The Pickerings, Altamonte Springs, Fla.
All programs and services are open to everyone and will take place rain or shine. A free will offering will be taken at most programs.

Registration for the Upper Milford Youth Association fall lacrosse program is now open for boys ages 6 to 12 years old.
The third annual fall lacrosse clinic will be held Sunday afternoons at Jasper Park starting at 1:30 p.m.
UMYA Lacrosse was founded three years ago and members of the Fisher family have volunteered to coach the sport they love.
UMYA will contribute a portion of the registration proceeds to the Michael "Whitey" Fisher lacrosse scholarship fund in memory of Michael Fisher, who passed away this past spring. The Fisher family has volunteered again this fall to assist coaching the fall clinic. See the UMYA lacrosse webpage for details.
Upper Milford Western District Fire Company will host its monthly breakfast 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 6. There are senior, adult and children's prices.

Vera Cruz senior citizens meet 1 p.m. the first and third Thursday of the month at the Vera Cruz Fire Company. All are welcome.
Upper Milford supervisors will meet Aug. 6 and 20, with a workshop at 7 p.m. and the regular meeting 7:30 p.m.
The Upper Milford Recreation Commission meets the third Monday of the month, January through November. The Emmaus-Upper Milford Joint Environmental Advisory Council meets 7 p.m., usually the fourth Monday of the month, alternating between Emmaus and Upper Milford. This month's meeting will be Aug. 24 in Emmaus.
Looking ahead: Chestnut Hill Church, Coopersburg, will hold its annual yard/bake sale and recycling event 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 3.
Go to the church's website, chestnuthillchurch. org, for a list of items accepted for the recycling event.
The yard sale will feature clothing, household items, knickknacks, furniture, books, toys, baby items, pictures and kitchen items.

All items not sold are donated to a local shelter and the Salvation Army.
