The Safe Kids Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton coalition is holding a free car seat check on Saturday, Aug. 15, 8:30-11 a.m., at the Allentown Fairgrounds Farmers' Market. Parents and grandparents are invited to attend and have their car seat checked by certified child passenger safety seat technicians for correct installation and fit.

Although the new LATCH system is making installation easier in many cases, technicians are still finding most car seats with a misuse. Some of the common problems include that the seat is not installed tightly to prevent movement of less than one inch, the harness straps are too loose or not in the correct slots, the top tether is not attached correctly or the car seat is expired.

Attendees should call 610-402-CARE to register for a time slot; walk-ins are also welcome. Bring your car seat and vehicle owner's manuals.

Those who would like a child's car seat checked but are unable to attend this event can call 610-402-CARE for other scheduled car seat checks or call 1-800-CAR-BELT for a list of available technicians in the area.
