SALISBURY TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

A Salisbury Township resident again raised concerns about fencing being placed at Lindberg Park. In his latest address to the township Board of Commissioners, he also complained about the township Shade Tree Commission policy.

In his second appearance before commissioners this month, Edward Tremba said he does not like the placement of fencing along the perimeter trail being built in Lindberg Park.

Tremba said he thinks the fence should be placed on the outside of the trail, not the inside of the trail.

"There will be an interior fence," Salisbury Township Acting Manager Cathy Bonaskiewich said at the July 23 commissioners' meeting. "That is the concept for the park. That will allow bicyclists and those with dogs to use the park."

"Many people have said they want to walk their dogs in the park," Township Commissioner Vice President Debra Brinton said.

"There are still people who walk their dogs in the park and don't clean up after themselves," Commissioner President James A. Brown explained.

Dogs are not allowed in Lindberg Park. However, dog owners will be allowed to walk their dog along the perimeter walkway-bikeway.

"The fence is going to stay," Brown emphasized.

At the July 9 township meeting, Tremba also objected to the Lindberg walking path fence location.

A $177,000 Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant, $169,000 Lehigh County Green Future Fund grant and $35,000 Lehigh Valley Health Network grant, with work by the township Public Works Department, are funding the Lindberg Park perimeter walking path, expected to be completed this fall.

The perimeter path and the Americans with Disabilities Act Path are part of the Lindberg Park Master Plan. The perimeter path is intended to connect to Allentown's Lehigh Parkway path.

In another matter, Tremba complained there are "59 missing trees" in his Buckingham Place neighborhood. "They were cut down and weren't replaced," Tremba alleged.

"They have to be replaced," Brown said. "We can send the code enforcement officer out. There is a due process."

"On your next agenda, you will hear three appeals on this matter," Bonaskiewich said.

"We have developments with dead trees," Commissioner Joanne Ackerman said. "We have the same problem in Green Acres. With the EAC [Environment Advisory Council], we're trying to get a grant to help people."

The township commissioners next meet 7 p.m. Aug. 13 in the township municipal building, 2900 S. Pike Ave.
