The Emmaus boys soccer program has been known to be successful, and one of the premier programs in District 11.

Even when the game's outcomes don't mean as much, and the roster isn't set in stone, the players perform like it is the state final, with great touches and ball movement, creating easy scoring opportunities.

The Green Hornets went 8-1-1 in the Lehigh Valley Summer Soccer League regular season, and followed up that impressive run with a 4-0 win over defending Class AA District 11 champion Saucon Valley last Monday night at Lehigh University's Stabler Campus fields.

"The hard part about the summer is always just getting the right numbers," Cari said. "It's been hard with not having many kids always available because of other commitments. But we return a lot of players from last year and we are all on the same page. We had a successful season last year, and our focus for this year starts right here. We want to just be ready to play every game no matter what game it is."

Emmaus controlled the first half with possession and ball movement, moving up and down the field with precision passing.

The Green Hornets got on board early thanks to a goal from the head of Mitch Sterkenberg off of a cross.

Andrew Romero struck a volley that the Panthers goalkeeper had no chance of stopping just minutes later.

Jon Fritz added another headed goal for Emmaus before the halftime whistle blew.

"That's something we pride ourselves on," said Emmaus head coach John Cari. "The kids that come into this program are trying to play a certain way and don't want to let the program down. There is a lot of movement that goes into our game, and the kids know each other well. We just want them to make good decisions, and that could hopefully lead to goals."

Braxton Brom added the fourth goal for the Green Hornets on a strike from the corner of the eighteen.

Now Emmaus will focus its attention on semifinal opponent Northwestern, whom they tied earlier in the summer. The two teams square off for a shot at the title on Wednesday night at Lehigh.
