The finale for the Emmaus Public Library's summer reading program, "Every Hero Has a Story!" will be 7 p.m. Aug. 13.
Representatives from the DaVinci Science Center will present "Health Choices: Embracing the Superheroes Within Us All." Some 325 youngsters registered to participate in the reading program this summer. Library Director Krista Pegnetter said this number is a spectacular increase over last year. In fact, it may be a new record for enrollment. Way to go Emmaus Library!
Don't forget the library will welcome members of the Bethlehem Mounted Police and their horses 2 p.m. July 28 as part of the "Heroes" summer reading program theme.
Drop in story times are held 10:30 a.m. Aug. 5 and 12; Block Parties 11 a.m. Aug. 5; Books and Barks 6:45 p.m. Aug. 27; Literary Lunch Jr. noon Aug. 11; Literary Lunch noon Aug. 12; Teen Read 7 p.m. Aug. 6. Registration is required for book clubs.
The August movies at the library are "The Batman Movie" (starring Adam West), 2 p.m. Aug. 4 and "Raiders of the Lost Ark" 7 p.m. Aug. 20.

The Emmaus Borough Council will meet 7 p.m. Aug. 17 in borough hall, 28 S. Fourth St.
The compost center is open 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The electronics recycling Dumpster is open the second Monday of each month noon to 6 p.m.
The community pool will be open noon to 8 p.m. until Aug. 23. It will be open 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 24 to 30. Adult swims are 8 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays until July 30. Aqua Zumba is held every Wednesday evening and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 14 and 28. Splash Dances are held every Thursday evening. There is a fee to attend the pool programs. Zumba class continues Saturday 9 to 10 a.m. in the Community Park's Arts Pavilion.
The borough's summer recreation program will hold its final session July 31 and includes a free swim 11 a.m. to noon and lunch. Some 82 youngsters registered for the program this year.
The parks and recreation commission will sponsor a movie night on the football field in Emmaus Community Park Aug. 14. Show time is dusk. Moviegoers are reminded to bring blankets and lawn chairs for seating.
Emmaus' Farmers Market in the KNBT parking lot, 235 Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday. Spend a pleasant evening at Emmaus Community Park listening to the popular Sunday concerts. Concerts begin 6 p.m. unless otherwise noted. The performances in August are Aug. 2: Charlie Brown's Notorious Groove (5 to 7 p.m.); Aug. 9: Galena Brass; Aug. 16: Dana Gaynor Band; Aug. 23: Steel Creek County Music Band and Aug. 30: Red Hill Band. The concerts are free and are held rain or shine in the arts pavilion.
There will be a community festival, "Emmaus Live!" 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 22 in Emmaus Community Park's Arts Pavilion. The program for the Emmaus Garden Club's Aug. 4 meeting is "Good Riddance to Insect Pests." Deb Martin, a Rodale gardening writer and book author, will discuss use of the least toxic and organic methods to protect gardens and homes from nuisance insects.
The club meets noon for social time with the program beginning 12:30 p.m. and followed by a business meeting 1:30 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Second St.
Emmaus Moravian Church, 146 Main St., will host a free back-to-school shop 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 15 for all East Penn School District families.
The shop includes gently used and some new clothes, shoes and backpacks. It also includes some new school supplies while supplies last. For information, call 610-965-6067.
The Shelter House Society will hold its members' picnic 6 p.m. Aug. 19 in the Shelter House pavilion, 601 S. Fourth St. Attendees should bring a covered dish to share. The Friends of the 1803 House are still accepting applications for crafters for its fundraiser "A Very Merrie Halloween" scheduled Oct. 3
This family oriented fall and Halloween festival and juried craft show will be held on the grounds of the historic 1803 House, 55 S. Keystone Ave.
New this year is a cakewalk and a weaving demonstration by Woven Welcome.
