The annual Roar With the Lions Festival will take place at the Union United Church of Christ grove in Neffs on July 24 and July 25.

This eagerly awaited mid-summer event gets underway Friday when the refreshment stands open for evening meals and the band, Crazy Hearts, entertains from 7-10 p.m.

On Saturday, the Upper Lehigh Lions will be serving breakfast 8-11 a.m., and barbecues, hot dogs and french fries throughout the remainder of the day and evening.

The craft show takes place Saturday, as 90 juried artisans set up throughout the grove.

Guitarist Brian Xander will add to the ambience of the lovely setting.

The Lehigh Valley Community Resource Center will offer free child safety ID services compatible with the PA Amber Alert system.

Sparky the Fire Dog will be present, as will the Miller-Keystone Blood Bank and free blood pressure screening. Used eyeglasses will be collected.

On Saturday, the Large Flower Heads will be on stage 7-10 p.m. with '60s music.

Proceeds from the festival are directed toward meeting the needs of people and service organizations in the community.

When he completed his recent term as president, Lion Joe Mascari said, "I think we made a lot of money, and we gave it all away."

Keith Bloss was installed as the new president of the Upper Lehigh Club for 2015-16 at a ceremony in June.

Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, will offer a Blessing of the Animals in the grove 10:30 a.m. on July 19.

Pets should be leashed or caged, or bring a photo of your pet to be blessed.

Pastor Patience Stevenson explains the reason for this special service.

"God's unconditional love for us is reflected in the warm, unconditional welcome we receive from our pets," Stevenson says. "Let us give thanks for that special bond in this special service."

Agape New Testament Fellowship, 5229 Route 873, Schnecksville, will have Vacation Bible School 6-8 p.m. July 31.

The program, "Give Me S'More of Jesus," will include games, snacks, crafts, a treasure hunt, bonfire and sleepover.

Children ages 3 through grade seven are invited to come for the session, which ends at 8 p.m.

The campout is designed for children ages 9-15. Parental permission is required. Those younger than 9 are welcome to stay overnight, if accompanied by a parent.

Highlights of the evening will include worship, teaching and a bonfire to roast hot dogs and make s'mores.

Breakfast will be served 7:30-9 a.m. with departure at 10 a.m.
