Seven Generations School students release trout

CONTRIBUTED PHOTO

Students in third grade at Seven Generations Charter School, Emmaus, release brook trout fingerlings they raised as part of the Pennsylvania Trout in the Classroom program. Trout in the Classroom is an interdisciplinary program introducing coldwater conservation education in Pennsylvania schools by raising brook trout, a native coldwater species, from eggs to fingerlings. Throughout the school year, Seven Generations third grade students monitored and recorded aquarium water quality and trout behavior. Seven Generations students cared for the trout on a daily basis, while their teachers, Barbara Lindtner and Meg Kennedy, incorporated coldwater education lessons into the students' community-based investigation of the impact of human use of watersheds and wetlands.
