CSG Falcons are unbeaten in summer soccer league

Salisbury boys soccer team was one of a handful of squads entering last week without a loss in summer league play.

The Falcons added yet another victory behind the leg of sophomore Patrick Adams.

Adams scored all three goals to keep Salisbury (CSG Falcons) unbeaten with a 3-1 win over Allen (Robinson Plumbing B) last Wednesday at Lehigh University's Campus Fields. The Falcons are now 4-0-1 in the Lehigh Valley Summer Soccer League's Group A with the highest goal differential of any team at plus-14.

Playing in the younger division of the two groups, in part because of the lack of players and the young group that Salisbury suits up in the summer, the Falcons are thriving on both ends of the field.

Offensively, the Falcons have scored the most goals (19) of any team across both groups. On the opposite end of the field, anchored by Tyler Keller in goal, the Falcons have allowed just five goals in as many games, tied for second in Group A.

"We're passing better than we usually do," Adams said. "We're keeping the ball more, instead of just keying on what's straight up. "

The Falcons didn't get off to a quick start, and Allen's attack capitalized on the opportunity to take an early 1-0 lead.

But that's when Adams and the Falcons responded moments later.

After splitting Allen's defense inside the 18' and falling down, Adams proceeded to get up and fire a shot passed the Canaries' goalkeeper for the equalizer.

That momentum carried into the second half when Adams ripped a deep shot into the left corner of the net that put the Falcons up 2-1. Roughly eight minutes later, the sophomore made a move from about 20 yards deep and shot into the top of Allen's cage for a 3-1 advantage.

"I'm going to have to move up top and try to get more goals for us, me and my brother [senior Zach Adams]," Adams said.

Along with the Adams duo, Collin Holben has been relied upon to handle the Falcons' scoring in the summer with the departures of Connor Wagner and Danny Walters, Salisbury's top scoring threats from the spring.

Adams is looking to improve his finishing and staying calm under pressure in preparing for that challenge that lies ahead.

"I'll probably be playing center-mid or forward I think," Adams said. "We lost more people in the middle than we did other places."

Results from Monday's game against Bears FC were not available at time of press.

The Falcons face Warrior Pride on Wednesday. Match time is 6 p.m. at Field 9.
