The Allentown Garden Club presented a spectacular showing of local gardens for 2015 in a self-guided tour June 27 which began with Allentown's Fragrance Garden at Cedar Beach Park.
Created by a member of the garden club in 1989, this aromatic garden contains an array of herbs, perennials and shrubs and is located next to the Allentown Rose Garden.
Wandering through the other nine gardens on the tour, visitors found a collection of hostas, potted plants, vegetable gardens, a rock garden and water features.
A unique outdoor garden railroad featured "G Scale" trains with approximately 70 scale buildings and structures added to the splendor.
Organic gardening was highlighted with a garden tended by a horticulturist which contains an herb garden, fruit trees, perennials, vegetables and bulbs.
Tree aficionados appreciated strolling through the gardens with trees of all kinds: a huge copper beech, dwarf trees, red buds, a mock orange, an elderberry, pines and weeping willow to name a few.
Visitors also saw a backyard greenhouse constructed of recycled windowpanes.
