Weisenberg Fire Company receives $18,600 FEMA grant for rescue tools

Weisenberg Township Volunteer Fire Chief Brian Carl told supervisors at their June 8 meeting the recent open house at the fire station was a success, with a very good turnout at the event.

Carl also noted the fire company has received a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant for $18,600.

This money will be used to purchase a battery operated Jaws of Life, along with other cordless rescue tools and equipment.

Only one subdivision plan was on the Weisenberg Township supervisors agenda for the June 8 meeting.

The final plan of the Folck two-lot subdivision at 3249 Golden Key Road was approved contingent upon review by the Lehigh County Soil Conservation District.

The recreation fee was waived as the farm is in Farmland Preservation and no more lots can be created.

The agreement concerning the property at 2502 Golden Key Road was presented to the board.

Supervisors' Chairman Bob Milot said he would like to have time to review the document but decided to discuss it anyway.

Attorney Kevin Fogerty, along with Todd Weaver of TCW Building Maintenance, discussed the agreement.

A few sticking points were addressed and the owner agreed to the conditions.

Easements for a water line and the walking trail will be delineated. The walking trail will traverse the driveway.

The Dumpster area must be fenced as well as any other outside storage.

Jeff Rex, 7894 Carpet Road, asked the board for a waiver on the requirement he install containment pits for his stormwater.

His house is located on a 74-acre lot and will be almost in the center of the property.

The board agreed to waive the requirement upon the condition wording be added that would require Rex to alleviate any problem that might occur due to the waiver.

His intention is to place the farm in the Farm Preservation program.

Roadmaster Tony Werley asked supervisors for authorization to purchase a new body for one of the township's trucks.

Cost for the body and spreader would be $9,726.

The board agreed to the request and to transferring $100,000 from the general fund account to the road account as the harsh winter forced road maintenance to go over budget.

Gerald Rusinko, 1609 Kramer Road, asked supervisors if anything is being pursued in regards to the junk at 2103 Independent Road.

Township Administrator Carl assured him appropriate steps have been taken to remedy the situation.

In addition, Carl said there will be a meeting with PennDOT regarding the Old Route 22 situation.

The board could agree to swap Old Route 22 for New Smithville Road under certain conditions.

Carl also told supervisors the annual summer convention of the Lehigh County Association of Township Officials will take place Aug. 7 at the Schnecksville Fire Company.
