Pennsylvania Sinfonia Orchestra will present the second of its four "Valley Vivaldi" chamber music concerts, 7:30 p.m. June 28, Christ Lutheran Church, 1245 Hamilton St., Allentown.
The program includes intimate and spirited instrumental works by composers from the late 17th and early 18th centuries: Antonio Vivaldi, Johann Sebastian Bach, Georg Telemann and Tomaso Albinoni. Joining the strings (violin, viola, cello and bass) and harpsichord are recorder and oboe.
Pennsylvania Sinfonia violinist Simon Maurer has the solo part in the Violin Concerto in A major by Albinoni. "Albinoni was famous in his day as an opera composer, however, he is mainly remembered today for his instrumental music," Maurer says. "The Violin Concerto in A major is a work in three movements, with Albinoni's typical infusion of happy notes that make his music so much fun to listen to."
The recorder will be played by Rainer Beckmann, a native of Germany, who performs with early music ensembles in the Philadelphia Tri-State area. Beckmann is a member of La Bernardinia Baroque Ensemble and Vox Renaissance Consort.
Beckmann will play in Telemann's Trio Sonata in D minor for Violin and Recorder and Chamber Concerto in G minor, RV 107, by Vivaldi, which also features oboist Cheryl Bishkoff.
The concert opens with Vivaldi's Concerto in D minor for Strings. The Bach piece on the program is Trio Sonata in G for Two Violins and Cello, BWV 1039.
A musicians' reception follows the concert.
