LOWER MACUNGIE COLUMN

The Lower Macungie Pool will be open noon to 8 p.m. daily. The pool will close 4:45 p.m. June 22 and 25 and July 9 and 13 for swim meets. A summer kickoff party will be held 1 to 5 p.m. June 28 featuring D.H. Productions Dip-N-Dance 1 to 3 p.m. and a magic show by Tom Yurasits 4 p.m. There will be a Wildlands Conservancy presentation 2 p.m. July 12. There will be a Dip-N-Dance 5 to 7 p.m. July 17. The Lower Lehigh Lions will hold a chicken barbecue June 20. Pickup will be 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Trexler Mall parking lot or the Macungie CVS parking lot. For information on purchasing tickets, call Pete at 484-431-0688 or go to www.e-clubhouse.org/ sites/lowerlehigh/contact.php.

Macungie Band will perform 7 p.m. July 11 at the Hills at Lockridge. The Pioneer Band will perform 7 p.m. Aug. 15 at East Texas Park.

The Lower Macungie Senior Citizens Club meets noon July 7 and 21 at the Lower Macungie Township Community Center. After a business meeting, members play bingo or card games.

Lower Macungie Township offers discounted tickets to Dorney Park, Hersheypark, Philadelphia Zoo and Six Flags Great Adventure. Tickets can be purchased at the township center 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.Monday through Friday.

Throughout the months of June and July, Lower Macungie Library will feature the paintings of Jeanne Stock.

The library now offers access to Hoopla, which allows streaming of movies, TV shows, music albums and audiobooks.

The Lower Macungie Library Book Club will meet 10:30 a.m. July 1 to discuss "Me Before You" by JoJo Moyes at the community center. The next book club meeting is Aug. 5.

The Summer Reading Club theme this year is "Every Hero Has a Story." There will be programs for school age superheroes in kindergarten through seventh grade Tuesdays June 23 through July 28. Reading incentive programs are available for pre-readers, independent readers and teen readers.

The Summer Reading Club kickoff 6:30 p.m. June 22 will be a superhero training camp. Participants will receive a super passport, create a superhero mask and cape and take some super hero photos. Rita's Italian Ice, donated by Ai Orthodontics will also be served.

Super family nights will be held Mondays June 22 to Aug. 3.

Family Night June 29 will be "Meet Batman and Wonder Woman." Superheroes from A Storybook Party will be available for pictures after a superhero swearing-in ceremony.

The movie "Big Hero 6" will be shown 6 p.m. July 5. Bring blankets and snacks; the library will provide popcorn. Storyteller Karen Maurer will be featured in Unexpected Heroes 6:30 p.m. July 13.

The Top 5: Heroes and Villains program will be held 1 p.m. June 25 for students entering grades six through 12.

A program Heroes of the Castle for grades kindergarten through fifth will be held 10:30 a.m. June 27. Come dressed as a princess or knight. Many more programs and activities are scheduled. The Friends of the Library are now accepting book donations for the fall book sale. Book sorting will begin 8:30 a.m. July 9 for the fall book sale. The next Friends of the Library meeting will be 10 a.m. Sept. 19.

The Lower Macungie Township Community Center offers a number of activities including Walkercise, yoga, pilates, Tai Chi and Power House Fitness. Summer children's classes include youth golf clinics, summer tennis lessons for children and adults, acting, art camps, boot camp, Minecraft, sewing camp, creative arts, Mad Science, geocaching, spy training camp, indoor sports camp, superhero training camp and dance camp. Note: some classes are held at the Wescosville Recreation Center, the Hills at Lockridge Community Center and Camp Olympic. Family Open Gym time is 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays for ages infant through 10 years with a parent. Proof of residency is required.

Yard waste site hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and noon to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The site is closed Tuesday and Thursday. Be prepared to show your photo I.D. as proof of residency.
