Early in the summer, the boys basketball landscape looks nothing like what it will in mid-July, leading up to the winter season.

With the Stellar and Sportsfest tournaments, and summer league playoffs, games heat up and teams usually will have their entire teams, including the head coaches.

During the summer league regular season games, players are involved in other things like vacations, AAU games and legion baseball.

The Emmaus boys basketball team has a lot to look forward to in 2015, with only one key departure in starting point guard Tyler Prescott. But with four starters returning and a ton of key experience coming off of the bench, the Hornets are primed for a big winter.

Before the winter, however, Emmaus is showcasing that talent in the Lehigh Valley Stellar summer league.

David Kachelries scored a team-high 16 points in helping secure a victory over Freedom last Tuesday night at Cedar Beach Park. The win kept Emmaus unbeaten at 5-0 early on in the summer league season.

"Our physicality really showed tonight, and that helped us fight through their push," said Feiertag. "They had a couple of big guys down low, but if you come together as one, box out, rebound, and just do what you have to do, it gets easier."

Playing without senior-to-be Joey Polcynski, fellow classmate Jacob Feiertag (six points) and Kachelries took some of the leadership roles and held on for a 53-45 win even with the Patriots on their heels all game long.

Jacob Scarnulis also tallied 16 in the win, and proved to be a force underneath the basket.

"I know sometimes we don't have everybody here, but we've played well together as a team with whoever is here, and that's helped us to this undefeated start," said Feiertag. "Playing together makes things easier."

The Green Hornets never trailed from the opening tip. The game got as close as 46-43 with just a little over five minutes left in the second half, but the trio of Kachelries, Feiertag, and Scarnulis teamed up to pull this one out.

Ian Makao contributed five points including a second half three-pointer. Cameron Widdoss tallied three points.
