EMMAUS HIGH SCHOOL

Members of the Emmaus High School Class of 2015 spent their final morning together as classmates in the high school auditorium during a meaningful baccalaureate service.

The students processed into the auditorium following a piano prelude performed by students Tobias Haus and Anthony Roncolato.

Class President Daniel Amankwatia led the Call to Worship.

Seniors Teresa Carotenuto and Micah Gilley performed "Amazing Grace," harmonizing while Carotenuto accompanied on the piano.

Rabbi Seth Phillips, of Keneseth Israel in Allentown, was the first to give a reflection to the soon-to-be graduates, discussing the significance of the graduates' parents, guardians and teachers, and the valuable lessons they have to offer.

"There are sources of wisdom that come from experience," Rabbi Seth said.

Pastor W.R. Vinovskis of Concordia Lutheran Church, gave the next reflection, quoting two popular teenage movies: "The Breakfast Club" and "Mean Girls." In addition to evoking giggles from the crowd, Vinovskis used these films to illustrate the idea of labels and "wearing a mask" throughout high school.

"The masks that we put on are what we wear to fit in to be someone," Vinovskis said. "But tomorrow when you graduate, that mask can come off."

Vinovskis, who has had and still has children attending EHS, reflected on watching some of the seniors grow up through sports games, music concerts, field trips and in his congregation.

"It's so much fun to see you all grow up and I'm so proud of all of you and what you have accomplished," Vinovskis said.

The high school's female a cappella group, Accabella, performed following Vinovskis, singing "Will the Circle be Unbroken."

President of Easton Phillipsburg Muslim Association Rizwan Butt gave the next speech, reading scripture from the Quaran and lightheartedly giving four simple words of advice, "Do not get angry."

Butt also discussed the importance of exploring and learning about other people and other cultures as the graduates step into the world.

The final reflection was given by Rev. Dr. K. Bobie Amankwatia, the father of Daniel Amankwatia.

Amankwatia began by asking the seniors what the letters B, I, B, L and E meant to them, before introducing the pneumonic device "Basic Information Before Leaving Emmaus."

Regarding Emmaus students as "bright, best and beautiful," Amankwatia advised the future graduates to stay true to who they are after high school and maintain the standards they set for themselves.

"The enemy will slap you not because you are nothing, but because you are something," Amankwatia said.

Class of 2015 Treasurer Justine Coleman gave the final benediction. As per tradition, there was a free will offering collected to benefit the Emmaus High School Angel Network.
