Turnpike workers to grind compost

Washington Township supervisors have applied for a composting grant for yard waste.

Slatington Borough will be a second applicant, so there is more chance of getting it, Supervisor Josh Friebolin said during the June 2 supervisors' meeting.

Slatington will pay 50 percent of the cost.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission agreed to grind all material on hand at the municipal building without charge while it is working on the Emerald bridge.

In other matters, supervisors denied a request for exoneration for per capita tax because there were too many blank spaces on the form.

The exoneration may be requested again with the blanks filled in.

The resident had asked for a full-time military exoneration.

An amendment to purchase group unemployment compensation insurance for workers through the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors will be advertised. Township Manager Todd Weidman told the board home occupation forms should be filled out to make sure the uses meet the regulations.
