Northampton Exchange Club honors students of the month

Northampton Area High School seniors Nathaniel Treichler, Andrew Martuscelli and Michael Rex were recognized by the Northampton Exchange Club Service to Youth Program recently.

The students were honored for academic excellence and extra-curricular activities, as well as their leadership in and out of school.

Treichler was the February Boy of the Month; Martuscelli, the March Boy of the Month; and Rex, the April Boy of the Month. The students were given a Lamp of Knowledge plaque and a framed certificate for their scholastic and out-of-school achievements.

Dr. Roger Berg, program chairman, said the boys were worthy based on their "service and leadership" resulting from hard work and commitment.

"I say we have future leaders here; they have served and served well," Berg said.

Looking back to the beginning of the country, Berg said George Washington was an aristocratic farmer who heeded the call to serve as commander in chief.

"Leaders have special skills. We need to listen. Good leaders listen," Berg said.
