The 34th Annual Lions All-Star Soccer Classic's boys game may have rained out last Sunday, May 31. But there was a bright spot in the day for Northwestern Lehigh senior Brandon Herb.

The Tiger all-star player was the recipient of the Award of Excellence scholarship, which he was awarded for scholastic leadership, community service and soccer achievements.

Herb was one of two boys chosen for this scholarship. He and his family are invited to attend a lunch on June 14th where he will receive a $250 scholarship award and plaque.

Herb finished sixth in his class of 168 students at Northwetsern and maintained straight A's all throughout his middle and high school years.

He was a member of the National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society. He was President of the Science Olympiad, helping lead his team to a first-place finish in the region competition.

Herb was treasurer of the Interact Club (Rotary Club) that raised money to purchase shelters for homeless people overseas. The club also helped make food packs for students that may not get the nutritional needs because of financial circumstances. He volunteered many hours at DaVinci Discovery Center of Science.

Herb started playing soccer at the age of five for the Northwestern Youth Association. As his love for the sport continued to grow, he tried out for a more competitive team on Lehigh Valley United. He has been on that team since the age of 10 winning many State Cup Championships and tournaments traveling as far as San Diego, CA.

He was chosen by his Lehigh Valley United coach to be in the select pool for the Philadelphia Union Junior League. In his high school years at Northwestern, Herb was captain his senior year, played varsity for four years and helped his team win the 2013 Colonial League Championship and 2014 Silver Medal District Championship.

He earned a spot on the All-Colonial League First Team as a senior for the third straight year.

Herb represented Northwestern at the 2014 Lehigh Valley Soccer Scholar Athlete banquet and received the Colonial League All-Star Scholastic Athlete award for Northwestern Lehigh. His future plans are to attend Steven's Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey, majoring in the field of bio-medical engineering.
