Garden club members plants trees to honor loved ones

Parkland Garden Club recently celebrated its 35th year of participating in the Arbor Day celebration by planting trees and shrubs at Lehigh Valley Zoo, Schnecksville.

Garden Club members taking part included Jean Buenzly, Bernie Maru-shak, Darlene Wenhold, Celie Turner, Megan Stanley, Mary Stanley, Patti Molitoris, Barbara Campbell and Debbie Barhight.

After meeting at one of the pavilions, the group toured the zoo stopping occasionally for ceremonial plantings of trees and shrubs donated by members of the garden club.

Since 1980, the club has planted more than 300 trees and shrubs.

This year, in addition of participating in Arbor Day celebrations at the zoo, the garden club in honor of its 60th anniversary, wrapped and gave hundreds of seedlings to Parkland first-grade students.
