LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

STUDENT OF THE WEEK

Q: What grade are you in?

A: I am in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q: What is your favorite subject? Why?

A: My favorite subjects are economics and U.S. government. Economics is like nothing else I have ever studied in high school and it fascinates me. I feel like I have a greater understanding of why certain people and politicians make certain claims and how the world works in general. Government also is an amazing course because I learned how our country functions and why it is both amazing and very flawed at the same time. Both of these classes influenced what I will be doing in the future.

Q: Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A: I have received the U.S. Government/Politics Award, the Scholar Athlete Award for Girl's Tennis and the Orchestra Award.

Q: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?

A: I am a member of National Honor Society, International Justice Mission, Chamber and Sinfonia and Mock Trial Club. I am the president of French Club, a Hornet Ambassador and on the board of the 1803 House.

Q: What is your next goal after high school?

A: I plan to attend University of Pittsburgh to major in political science with a concentration in international relations as well as getting certificates in Arabic and Turkish.

Q: What would you say your biggest challenge has been so far?

A: My biggest challenge has been to stick with my opinions and ideals even when they have made me unpopular or others have disagreed with them.

Q: What do you want to be remembered for?

A: I want to be remembered for being kind and helpful to everyone I have met especially in the orchestra and through Hornet Ambassadors.

Q: Who is in your family?

A: My mother is Jennifer Smith, my father is Kenneth Smith, my sisters are Victoria and Madeleine Smith and my dog is Cooper.

Q: Do you have someone you look up to?

A: I look up to my cello teacher, Mrs. Simons, for being one of the most compassionate, intelligent and talented women I know.

Q: Do you have any advice for your peers?

A: You should always keep trying your best even when it gets difficult because hard work pays off.
