Tabor Mentoring has contracted with Lehigh County to expand mentoring services.
The official expansion brings quality mentoring opportunities to connect more of this region's young people with caring adults. There is a large gap between the number of mentors and young people who need mentors, and it continues to grow. Tabor is aiming to not only bring awareness to this gap, but to begin to close it in Lehigh County.
To achieve this, Tabor is focusing on engaging community members in volunteering, increasing community support and forming new partnerships with local businesses and organizations. The mentoring program is actively seeking new volunteers who are able to offer a mentoring relationship, a basic human connection that lets a young person know that they matter.
"This expansion marks a prime opportunity for individuals, families and businesses to look at how incorporating mentoring into their lives will create a healthier community," said Nykea Alvarez-Macey, Tabor Mentoring specialist. Dawn Miller, director of Suburban County Programs, added, "Every day, the mentoring program staff bears witness to how simply spending two hours a week with a youth can empower them to move forward into adulthood with the confidence that someone cares about them."
The program has publicly released a mentoring video that aims to bring awareness on the the need for mentors and also calls the local community to action. The video can be viewed at https://youtube/UF_UYSVLFig.
