NWL Class of 2015 spends an evening in the Enchanted Forest

Northwestern Lehigh's Class of 2015 celebrated an evening of enchantment in the Woodstone Country Club's grand ballroom beneath swags of chiffon festooning the vaulted ceiling.

Class officers selected the venue.

"When we went to visit, the kids fell in love with it," Linda Paist, one of two co-advisers for the class, said. "They didn't even want to look at anything else."

Class President Jordan Schnur said she and fellow officers Vice President Carly Pierce, Secretary Brandon Eden and Treasurer Kelsey White wanted a venue with "rustic elegance" and Woodstone, in Danielsville, fit the bill and the theme of this year's prom.

According to Co-adviser Michael Sikora, 88 kids responded to an online survey where they "overwhelmingly chose Enchanted Forest as the theme and Green Day's 'The Time of Your Life' as the class song."

"The theme dictated the color scheme, which included Kelly green, purple and navy blue," Paist said. "There are chandeliers in the grand ballroom that look like twigs. Ficus trees were decorated with little lights; purple tulle decorated the chairs."

Schnur said Woodstone provided glass cylinders to hold branches they gathered and spray painted for centerpieces. Mason jars filled with chocolate candies tempted the seniors and their guests.

Prom-goers enjoyed an Italian family feast featuring Chicken Piccata, spaghetti and meatballs marinara, Penne Rosa, Caesar salad and garlic breadsticks.

"The kids wanted an ice cream sundae bar instead of cannoli," Schnur said. "We're a family and we're going to feast together and eat together."

Schnur said by choosing the Woodstone, the class splurged just a little.

"But it was worth it," Schnur said. "When you're standing on the deck and looking around [the view] reminded us of our school, or as if you were standing at [Bake Oven] Knob.

"The view is great and there's a grand staircase we could all actually fit on making it perfect for pictures."

Paist said the Enchanted Forest implies fairy tales and fairy dust, a little bit of magic.

"It's going to be gorgeous," Paist said. "When I walk in there I'm going to have a great time."

White was concerned about finances.

"But this year, the class really came together," White said, crediting selling T-shirts at Homecoming and senior T-shirts for erasing financial worries.

A few days before the prom, a crowd of seniors gathered to share their anticipation and excitement.

"It's kind of like a wedding," said George Haddad, who went with Carley Sheetz. "We do it for the girls."

Rachel Fisher could barely suppress her enthusiasm.

"This is the last gathering to have a good time and to enjoy each other's company," she said. "It's all about party, party, party."

Her date, Cody Gangaware, was somewhat more reflective.

"It's a big thing seeing all the effort the officers and advisers put into the prom," Gangaware said. "I don't really care what [anyone] wears.

"What matters is how people treat each other."

Jaedon Muhl attended a prom when he was a sophomore.

"But this is going to be more special because it's my prom," said Muhl, who asked Megan Rebert to be his date.

"I think it's a good way to wrap up the end of the year," said Nicole Generose. "I'm really looking forward to this. The whole atmosphere is exciting.

"This may be the last time we'll see some of these people."

Hunter Bartholomew attended the prom with Lauren Anderson.

"It's going to be good time," Bartholomew said. "It's time to hang out with everyone."

Laura Kotula said the prom would be different from graduation, which is much more serious and sad.

"With the prom, we're still making memories," Kotula. said.

"Because we have Twitter and social media, we still can communicate with each other [so] we're not losing an emotional attachment," said Alex Russo. "But the prom is still important and fun."

Plans for the prom began with "promposals," finding the perfect outfit, and arranging for transportation for a memorable evening.

Jeff Garbacik used a soft pretzel baked into the word "prom" to ask Grace Schoeniger."

As for clothing, Haddad selected a black and "periwinkle tie" to compliment Sheetz's "Cinderella blue" dress.

Muhl and Alessandro Consuelos each decided on a classic white dinner jacket with black tuxedo pants.

Fisher purchased her dress at a little boutique while on vacation in Florida. The coral dress, with fitted beaded bodice and mesh back, made quite a statement with Gangaware's grey tux.

Kotula also got her dress while on vacation in Florida, specifically at Epcot Center.

"I saw a beautiful blue dress on a mannequin in Morocco and my grandmother insisted I try it on," Kotula said.

In no time, she had purchased her prom dress.

Nicole Venusto purchased a light bluish green lace dress with underlay from JCPenney.

"It's our last senior get together before graduation," Venusto said. "I'm excited to be sitting with my friends because we spent so much time in high school together."

Generose selected a lavender dress with beaded bodice and elaborate chandelier earrings.

Transportation to Woodstone varied widely.

Muhl rode with about 20 other people in a Hummer limousine.

Consuelos and his date, Josey Steidinger, rode with Brayden Heller in a 1963 Studebaker Hawk belonging to Heller's grandfather.

Haddad's father provided for a bus to meet some 80 friends at the high school and take them to the prom.
