The Lower Macungie Township Board of Commissioners received a letter from a resident objecting to oil and chipping the roads at the May 7 meeting. Township Manager Bruce Fosselman said this procedure is necessary to keep roads in good repair. The commissioners said the procedure has improved over the years and is not as messy as it used to be.

Commissioners received the annual report on the Macungie Ambulance Corps at the meeting.

Operations Manager Christopher Greb said there were 3,312 calls for the year which is a record for the corps.

The corps trained over 950 people in CPR, first aid and other medically related topics.

There were 56 American Heart Association sessions and 13 continuing education sessions.

The Macungie Ambulance Corps has four advanced life support ambulances. The fleet also includes one special operations vehicle, one all-terrain vehicle, one pick-up truck and one mass casualty incident vehicle.

There is ongoing interest in a dog park. From requesting bleachers and benches to dog agility courses, dog parks are a strong topic in the township. It was suggested dog parks provide socialization for township residents.

Scott Alderfer, environmental advisory committee chairman, suggested purchasing heavier recycling bins. This will help with bins blowing around on windy days. It was also suggested the bins be larger to eliminate recyclables blowing around.

A duck derby will be held at Camp Olympic July 25. There will be vendors which will include food, a dunk tank and other family activities.

The deer issue for a resident on Orchard Road near Mountain Drive continues. The concern over health issues was mentioned. Deer ticks have been found by the resident. Scott Forbes from the public safety commission has been in contact with the game commission about the problem.

The July 2 board of commissioners meeting has been cancelled due to the Independence Day holiday.
