Emmaus' Special Entertainment commission has planned a day full of activities May 31 for the kick off for the annual summer concert series. There will be vendors, crafters, artisans and local businesses set up throughout Community Park with activities and demonstrations for the whole family.

In the Arts Pavilion 2 to 4 p.m. are musicians Craig Thatcher and Nyke Van Wyk and the Wildlands Conservancy with a live animal presentation 2 to 3 p.m. There is a duck derby fundraiser (for tickets, email emmausent@ gmail.com. From 6 to 8 p.m. the Large Flowerheads will perform. The community pool will be open (there is a fee). Reminder: There is free Zumba in the Arts Pavilion 9 a.m. Saturdays through the summer. The community pool will be open noon to 8 p.m. June 6 and 7; 3 to 7 p.m. June 1 to 5 and June 8 to 11; noon to 8 p.m. June 12 to Aug. 23. Adult swims are 8 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays June 11 until July 30.

The Emmaus Historical Society museum at 563 Chestnut St. will close its doors May 30 to prepare and move its inventory to its new facility at 218 Main St. The new museum will have three times as much display area as the Chestnut Street museum. A grand opening is scheduled for September. The society members are still accepting donations but by appointment only. Call 610-966-6591 to schedule an appointment.

The program for the Emmaus Garden Club's June 2 meeting is "Creating an Eye-Catching Container Garden." Gayle Ganser, the co-owner of her family's Eagle Point Market in Trexlertown and farm in Kutztown, will bring plants to sell and potting soil and know-how to share. Attendees are reminded to bring a container. The club meets noon for social time with the program beginning 12:30 p.m., followed by a business meeting 1:30 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church, 3002 N. Run Lehigh Valley is sponsoring the Funk 5-Miler race June 6. The race begins 10:30 a.m. at Triangle Park and ends 2 p.m. at Triangle Park. There will be entertainment and snacks following the race. For information, email info@runlehighvalley.com.

The Kiwanis Club will hold its 42nd annual pancake and sausage breakfast 8 a.m. to noon June 7 at the Emmaus Fire Co. #1, Broad and Sixth streets. There is a cost; children ages 10 and under eat free. For tickets, call 610-395-4818.

Senior citizens over the age of 55 are invited to the Emmaus Senior Citizens' meetings at St. Matthew's E.C. Church, Ridge and Fifth streets. The group meets 1 p.m. Fridays. June programs are June 5: Emmaus Police Officer Jeremy Schilling; June 12: musician Carol Sexton; and June 19 is a covered dish luncheon at the church. Please note the June 19 meeting begins noon. The public is invited to Emmaus' annual Flag Day program during which the student essay and poetry contest winners are recognized 2 p.m. June 14 in the Emmaus Community Park Arts Pavilion. The opening for Emmaus Public Library's summer reading program, "Every Hero Has a Story!" is 7 p.m. June 16 and will feature storyteller Charles McKiernan. The kickoff event is sponsored by the Emmaus Lioness Club.

Sign up for the reading program for readers from first grade through high school begins June 15. Register at the library's circulation desk.

The library's programs in June are: Drop in story times 10:30 a.m. June 17 and 24; Block parties 11 a.m. June 17; Literary Lunch Jr. for fourth and fifth graders June 23; Literary Lunch for sixth, seventh and eighth graders June 24 and Books and Barks 6:45 p.m. June 25.

The summer hero movies, "Disney's Hercules," will be shown 2 p.m. June 23 and "Captain America," will be shown 7 p.m. June 18.

The deadline for registering for Emmaus' summer parks program is June 12. The program for youngsters five to 12 years old starts 9 a.m. to noon June 22. There is a cost. For information, call borough hall at 610-965-0701.

Emmaus Borough Council meets 7 p.m. June 15 at borough hall, 28 S. Fourth St.

The compost center is open 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday, 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. The electronics recycling dumpster is open noon to 6 p.m. the second Monday of each month.

The Emmaus Farmers Market in the KNBT parking lot, 235 Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday. Special programs are June 7: Emmaus Public Singing Society; June 14: Gesture Without Motion; June 21: The Cal Stueben Trio and June 28: the Peach Tones. For information, visit emmausmarket.com.

Emmaus Parks and Recreation Commission will host its annual community day 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 21 in Community Park. The event is free to the public and will feature food vendors, community organizations, crafts, athletic events, a petting zoo and inflatable games. The event also features the Old Timers softball game 1 p.m., followed by the Old Timers baseball game 5 p.m. Alias, a classic rock band, will perform 6 to 8 p.m.

The Parks and Recreation Commission will host Movie Night in the Park June 26. The movie, "Annie," is sponsored by Emmaus Midget Football Association and will be shown dusk on the Community Park football field. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs.
