When Michael Lee Kemmerer died in from a vehicle accident, his father, Dale, decided to give the insurance money to the Northwestern Recreation Commission in his memory.

A monument was placed at Field 4 next to the concession stand and the field was named for Michael.

Carl Breininger was president of the Northwestern Youth Athletic Association at the time.

He said both Dale and Michael Kemmerer went to Northwestern Lehigh High School.

Michael was active in sports, both in school and NYAA.

The Northwestern Press thanks Breininger for the information because the reason for the monument had been forgotten by a later generation.
