St. John's United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, has been selected as a polling place for the primary election, May 19, and the general election, Nov. 3.

About 1,500 registered voters reside in the St. John's district.

The church reports satisfaction for the opportunity to help the community by easing congestion at another polling site.

Volunteers are planning to prepare and sell food to anyone who comes to vote, work or just eat on election day.

As the church cannot endorse any candidate, no signs will be allowed on the property.

The state Department of Environmental Protection will be using the parking lot of St. John's as a helicopter landing site for the black fly suppression program.

The effort consists of periodic spraying of waterways during the summer to reduce or eliminate black flies and mosquitoes. The spray is a natural soil bacterium.

A tanker truck will meet the helicopter at the church lot to fill and refill the application tanks.
