Board members and administratrators were treated to an evening of technology in use at the curriculum and technology committee meeting held April 27 at Salisbury Middle School.

Students and staff demonstrated how they use technology in their classroom studies and in local clubs and competitions.

The board received an update on the Chapter 339 Plan: A comprehensive school counseling program for students in grades kindergarten through grade 12.

Guidance counselors Lee Ann Kriner and Shannon Stokes, along with SMS Principal Robert Cassidy said the plan has been approved at the state level. The plan was compiled by Salisbury, in conjunction with the state and Lehigh Career and Technical Institute.

Kriner said every year the goals will be revised as needed.

Stokes described the level of services provided at the elementary, middle and high school levels to encourage self-advocacy, career awareness, social skills, homework guidance, develop learning profiles to include skills and interests and eliminate truency.

The Arts Academy Charter School, in Salisbury, has applied for renewal and because STSD oversees the charter school, the renewal must be approved by the board.

In 2011, the district approved the charter.

Former Superintendent Michael Roth sent a letter to the charter school prior to leaving the district asking for additional information which, according to Superintendent Dr. Randy Ziegenfuss has been received.

Board member Mary Ziegler said the team has reviewed the school's financial records, policies, admissions, safety plan, reporting, enrollment statistics and family and community involvement. A site visit was also made by Ziegenfuss and Assistant Superintendent Lynn Fuini-Hetton.

Ziegler said the charter school has met what was agreed to in their charter and the board will continue the discussion at the May 18 meeting with a vote on renewal scheduled for the June 17 meeting.

Board member Christopher Spedaliere asked if the board could be updated monthly on the charter school as part of their board meetings.

A field trip for 11 students and three adults to travel to Penn State for the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science educational tour May 17 to 19 was approved by the committee.

Ziegenfuss provided an update on the TL2020 survey which received a good response. A presentation will be made to the board after the results have been compiled.
